چکیده

This paper presents the current state of the art of the iron base infiltration process. The several papers detailing the efforts made in the last few years to develop the process and assess its mechanical property potential and dimensional change characteristics are reviewed and presented in summary form.

Improving Accuracy of Powder Sintering-based SFF Processes by Metal Deposition from Nanoparticle Dispersion

Solid Freeform Fabrication processes such as three-dimensional printing (3DP) and selective laser sintering (SLS) produce porous parts that must be densified. New steel infiltration methods can produce parts of standard alloy compositions with properties comparable to wrought materials. However, the infiltration process introduces dimensional errors due to both shrinkage and creep—particularly ...

Effect of Composition and MnS Addition on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Powder Forged Copper Steel Parts

In this work, the effects of carbon content and manganese sulfide addition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of copper steel parts have been studied. Steel powder mixture containing 2%Cu and different graphite contents with and without MnS additions were compacted, sintered and forged to almost full density. Forged samples, with near theoretical densities, were tested for tensile,...

Data on the densification during sintering of binder jet printed samples made from water- and gas-atomized alloy 625 powders

Binder jet printing (BJP) is a metal additive manufacturing method that manufactures parts with complex geometry by depositing powder layer-by-layer, selectively joining particles in each layer with a polymeric binder and finally curing the binder. After the printing process, the parts still in the powder bed must be sintered to achieve full densification (A. Mostafaei, Y. Behnamian, Y.L. Krime...

Synthesis of syntactic steel foam using mechanical pressure infiltration

Steel foam offers potential advantages over aluminum foams and other metallic foams. The inherent strength of steel combined with the reduced density of foam presents an attractive material with greater strength and modulus than light alloy foams, greatly reduced density relative to solid steel, and efficient energy absorption. However, thus far there have been few reports describing efforts to...

Manufacturing and Testing Experience with Direct Metal Laser Sintering for Closed Centrifugal Compressor Impellers

Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) is an additive manufacturing process that utilizes a high-powered laser to build up a metal part by selectively melting thin layers of metal powder. This process is attractive for the manufacturing of parts with complex geometry such as closed centrifugal compressor impellers. DMLS allows closed impellers to be made in a single piece and eliminates the shroud...
